SUPER TRENDY: Mayor Bloomberg shuts down stalls along Canal Street
Last week Mayor Bloomberg (New York’s Mayor) shut down around 31 stalls on Canal Street, which is infamous for selling knockoffs of very expensive brands. Ever since I was a kid living in Queens, I can recall seeing a bunch of these type of things on Jamaica Ave (we used to shop at Cookies, LOL). I didn’t phase me then because I didn’t know much.
Okay… this might get a bit controversial, but hear me out—I might change your ‘steadfast’ opinions on some issues. I think that it’s good all these stalls got shut down. I know that these big designer companies make a lot of money and do charge a lot of money for their goods as well. My question is, why do people feel like this is an injustice?
If you really love something that Louis Vuitton has designed, then shouldn’t you save the money up and pay for it? If you can’t afford it, it’s definitely not the end of the world and I’m sure there are millions of decent, if not better, alternatives out there! The problem with people, I think, is greed.
I know for myself, when I see something REALLY I want I do everything in my power to get it, but that isn’t necessarily healthy. What I should be doing is living within my means. I just don’t support fake goods because I know for a fact that there are A LOT of nice items with very reasonable price tags.
Why can’t we just be satisfied with what we have? Ah… to be human.
