TRENDY: Changed Web Hosts from HostMonster to Host Gator

TRENDYBLACKGUY was down for a bit in the past day and half because of a host change. I’ve been dealing with this HostMonster crap for a whole year now, and now that it’s time for renewal, I’m out! I’m glad to welcome in Host Gator for the new year, yessssss…
I’m not making enough money yet to be able to justify paying $1000 a year for a dedicated server, so I had to go with a cheaper host, which was $100 a year on average. I initially chose HostMonster, and it was okay but it wasn’t really THAT great. I’m not one to bad mouth any service, but let me go through my three main grievances:
1. HostMonster (HM) seems like it wasn’t built to handle the memory hogging WordPress at all. I shouldn’t complain too much because there isn’t much to expect from a cheaper shared host, but I mean come on. Most blogs these days are run on WordPress or something similar in memory demands; you’d think that HM would want to cater to the demands of most of its users.
2. HostMonster doesn’t have great options to upgrade your hosting services. In fact, HM has no options at all! I’ll applaud the fact that they use cPanel, which is awesome, but realizing that if I ever wanted to upgrade to a dedicated server I couldn’t that raised some flags. It is my fault, however, for not understanding that a year ago before I started my blog, so I can’t say this grievance of mine is really their fault.
3. HostMonster was VERY rude to me via Live Chat when I asked for assistance. This is what really made me say, “Okay, I’m leaving this lame ass service once 2010 rolls around.” I had called them some time ago about the server going down and dude on the Live Chat was trying to tell me it was my fault like HM never goes down. Dude actually said, “well maybe it’s because your blog is so image heavy.” I was like, “I have about 8 images on the main page, that wouldn’t cause the site to load in 8 seconds.” Anyway, they lost a customer.
Now I’m on Host Gator, which gives me the ability to upgrade to a dedicated server in the future and can handle WordPress very well. Also, I’ve already used their customer service and they were very helpful and NICE. Damn HostMonster… keep treating people like that and you’ll eventually lose all your customers.
LOL @ me thinking that I actually make a difference, though. I’m sure they’ll keep most of their customers anyway because, well, that’s just how life works sometimes. Whatever, I’m happy now!
