TRENDYBLACKGUY: Tiger Woods x The Times-Picayune
Well, New Orleans based news paper, The Times-Picayune, is not helping Tiger’s case. This is wrong on so many levels but funny nonetheless. I didn’t really want to post about Tiger Woods because everyone already knows about what’s going on, but I figured why not, right? It’s always interesting to hear an opinion from someone else…
Now, I’m not one to advocate cheating on your wife, especially when you have children, but I am an advocate of logic. Honestly, why is Tiger Woods’ business so important to everyone? He is a high-scale celebrity, yes, but most people in this world haven’t even met him. So, the question lies: why is someone’s personal life so important to the world?
Let’s break some things down, shall we?
1. I understand that Tiger Woods is a role model for adults and children, but in reality we love Tiger because he plays golf well. Playing golf well is something that the media cannot construct, but one’s image is! So, why is it that we are so concerned with the most media-malleable portion of Tiger Wood’s life? The image of Tiger Woods has really been nothing more than a well crafted presentation, and now we’re all of a sudden stunned when we find out that he makes human mistakes.
2. Who are we to judge anyone so harshly? It’s funny how some people act like they’re saints when discussing Tiger Woods’ situation. How many times have YOU actually done something bad? Never? Sure. And anyway, is this necessarily bad? Tiger Woods isn’t some mass murderer or racist; he’s actually a charitable, competitive, and well mannered athlete, man, and father. But, I guess my argument is the cliche one that there are many worse things that he could have done, but it’s true and we have to look at it in that perspective.
3. The media controls you, and you love it. I find myself amazed at how the media can get me to do things that I probably wouldn’t have ever done–like signing up for Twitter, for example. People love to think that they are above the media and are in fact making their own decisions, but in reality you’re not. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have this extensive conspiracy theory, but I am self conscious enough to understand that the media has an effect–in which I’ve succumb to on many occasions–on my life. With that being said, the media can depict Tiger Woods however they want to (like the main picture of this post, for example) and we adhere to it and run with it. Disgusting? Yes. Surprising? No.
The smartest thing Tiger Woods did was to remove himself and essentially go into hiding. The celebrities that have fallen have been the ones who chose to stay in the limelight and try to “tough” things out. Tiger Woods will be back, and you will all be on his nuts again, don’t you worry.
P.S. When I say “you” I don’t mean “you,” but in fact I mean “you!” You know what I’m talking about.
end rant.
