About TRENDYBLACKGUY

TRENDYBLACKGUY is a blog started back in 2009 by me, Junior Obionwu, during my senior year of college. My interests in web design extend back to my pre-teen years, which involved building and managing different websites related to Anime. Upon entering high school, though, I gave up on those hobbies to focus more on, what I thought was, “being cool.”

Post high school, and towards the end of my college stint, I had grown and matured in different ways. My interests were a bit more refined. I had since fallen in love with street fashion and decided to resurrect my affection for web design; hence the birth of TRENDYBLACKGUY.

TRENDYBLACKGUY had initially started as “So Fresh Space,” a website where visitors could sign up, create profiles, and share their love for fashion with other members. I had dreams of creating a social network for fashion lovers. So Fresh Space was decent in its early stages but it wasn’t what I really wanted to pursue, so I decided to leave that realm to LookBook.nu. Eventually, I disabled membership and designed a blog which focused solely on my interests. The rest is history in the making.

Throughout its lifetime, TRENDYBLACKGUY has experienced three major design overhauls, a steady increase in readership, and it has even begun to generate enough revenue for self sustenance. TRENDYBLACKGUY as a blog has taught me a lot and opened many doors for me. For example, I was able to get a pretty cool gig at Boston Magazine. Dope, huh?
